Iraqi journalist Salam Talib describes the divide between the American and Iraqi perspective of the war

Salam Talib is an Iraqi citizen. He worked as a translator for US journalists after the war and started reporting from Iraq himself in 2005. He recently moved to San Francisco to study computer engineering.

After nearly two months in prison, the chief editor of the Indian magazine People's March has finally been released after paying a $2,500(US) bail, following accusations from the so-called "communist" authorities of Kerala state that he played a role in "insurrectional activities." This also comes after the 68-year old journalist's hunger strike to protest his detention shortly after his arrest. The People's March magazine is published legally in India, and presents itself as the "voice of the revolution." The allegations made against Govindan Kutty have no serious legal basis; it was motivated by the need to silence a voice that reports on popular topics and supports the cause of Maoist guerillas fighting in the country.

A young man, a student of journalism, is sentenced to death by an Islamic court for downloading a report from the internet. The sentence is then upheld by the country’s rulers. This is Afghanistan – not in Taliban times but six years after “liberation�? and under the democratic rule of the West’s ally Hamid Karzai.

Update: The NDP has passed, by a unanimous vote, the following motion: That this House condemns the proposed execution of the Afghan journalism student, Sayed Pervez Kambaksh, and calls on the Government of Canada to intervene with the government of Afghanistan to have all criminal proceedings against Sayed Pervez Kambaksh immediately abandoned.

Malacañang’s (Presidential Palace) cash gifts, for whatever fabricated excuses and delayed explanations, has exposed the governance of Ms. Gloria Arroyo as morally bankrupt.

The incident unfolding in Makati City today is not surprising. It is a logical conclusion to the abuses committed by the Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA) administration, from the dismissal of the impeachment complaint to the clamp down of democratic and constitutional processes.

With the Internet now dominating nearly every aspect of modern life, U.S. control of the medium has become a sensitive topic worldwide. In nations that try to control what people can see and hear, the Internet often is the only source of uncensored news and opinion.

For asking, with a bit of passion, questions in public that some did not like, a student is forcibly taken away. He decides to protest the arrest since he is aware that he is simply using the right to speech that his society taught him he supposedly had. No one helps him and five 'security' guards decide to use a taser on him.
