to the Hors-d'Oeuvre collective – an open letter

Salon du livre ..., Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 14:36 (Communiqués)

We’re writing you this letter as one anarchist collective to another, in the spirit of open, honest and constructive communication.

Having read the statements “On avance. On avance. On recule pas!” and “Warning (to John Zerzan)” on your website, as well as the call for a demo in front of the Montreal Anarchist Bookfair (“On n'arrête pas le progrès!”) there are several points we would like to express.

May Day Communications from the Working People of Iraq to the Workers and People of the World !

Michael Lessard, Thursday, May 1, 2008 - 13:02 (Communiqués | Guerre / War | Imperialism | Solidarite internationale | Travail / Labor)

Shared by US Labor Against War

The first message is a May Day greeting from a broad cross-section of union leaders from many different unions and labor federations in Iraq as an expression of their appreciation for the solidarity demonstrated by organized labor, working people and all peace-loving people of the world in support of their efforts to end the foreign occupation of Iraq and the sectarian violence that occupation has spawned.

The second is a statement of solidarity from the General Union of Port Workers in Iraq to the members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) in support of the decision by ILWU members to shut down all the ports on the West Coast as a demonstration of their opposition to the war and occupation of Iraq.

Justice for Tyendinaga Now!

After over 200 police officers raided the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory west of Belleville, Ontario on April 22nd, 2008 actions have escalated. On the evening of Friday, April 25th, the Tyendinaga community was again under attack, while continuing the blockade intended to protect itself and its "disputed" Quarry. Currently the Nation is surrounded by a wide police perimeter that prevents access to the Quarry.

Urgent Action against the trap of the "Unborn Victims of Crime Act"

Michael Lessard, Saturday, April 26, 2008 - 16:13 (Fil de presse | Activism | Droits / Rights / Derecho | Femmes / Women / Mujeres | Politics)

Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec
Explanation :
The Purpose of Bill C-484, is to amend the Criminal Code so that charges can be laid in all cases causing the death of an unborn child. The goal of the MP was, it seems, to make it particularly criminal to knowingly do violence to a pregnant woman and cause the death of the fetus. But, the way it is written, it grants a separate legal status to the fetus. Pro-life and certain religious conservatives hope to invoke the principle of this law in order to criminalize a doctor practising a voluntary abortion. Of course, as you can guess, the Conservative Party of Canada refuses to correct this private bill and votes massively For! Yet, if they did not have a hidden goal, Conservative MPs would simply amend it to make it state that it is a grave crime to knowingly harm a pregnant woman, period. - Michaël Lessard

=> Quebec's National Assembly reacted against this law

=> The Bloc and the NDP vote Against, but 27 Liberal MPs voted For

Action: 30 seconds for a Canadian murdered by Israel

Anonyme, Saturday, March 29, 2008 - 03:59 (Communiqués | Droits / Rights / Derecho | Guerre / War | Imperialism)

On July 25th, 2006, a Canadian peacekeeper with the UN in Lebanon was murdered when Israel bombed his bunker with a laser-guided "bunker busting" bomb. At the time, Prime Minister Harper said he would demand answers from the Israelis, but Israel refused to cooperate with the Canadian inquiry into the incident. The Canadian report came out last month, and there are no answers, even though the report holds Israel responsible for the death. To date, Canada has not put any pressure on Israel to provide additional information.

[Afghan MP Joya] Canada should change its policy on Afghanistan

Michael Lessard, Wednesday, March 12, 2008 - 16:50 (Analyses | Droits / Rights / Derecho | Femmes / Women / Mujeres | Guerre / War | Imperialism | Repression | Resistance)

March 3, 2008
by Malalai Joya, an Afghan MP currently appealing her suspension from the country's parliament. She spoke to rabble.ca editor Derrick O'Keefe.

After 9/11, unfortunately the United States and its allies like Canada pushed us from the frying pan into the fire, by putting in power the Northern Alliance criminals and warlords. As long as they follow this wrong policy, the situation in Afghanistan will become more disastrous.
