The inquiry commissions such as the now renowned Gommery Commission serve as rehabilitation agents for the state. In the context of capital’s crisis of accumulation, the government needs to refresh its image, because it will soon need to impose on us more suffering in order to once again attempt to get the ruling class out of the always deeper crisis of its mode of production. This means more misery for our class.

 
In a bid to denounce Canada's poor treatment of immigrants and refugees, the Solidarity Across Borders coalition is organizing a march from Montreal to Ottawa, from June 18th to the 25th. Aiming to bring the public's attention to the situation of refugees and immigrants in the country, the coalition has made the following 4 demands:

1. The regularization of all non-status persons ;
2. An end to deportations ;
3. An end to the detention of migrants, immigrants and refugees ;
4. The abolition of security certificates.

Some 200,000 people now live and work in Canada without any legal status.

On Saturday, June 18th, the march will depart from Cabot square (Atwater Metro), heading for Côte-des-Neiges. The first day of the march will come to a close with a neighbourhood street party in Kent Park (Côte-des-Neiges). The event will feature Nomadic Massive, Syncop, and Muzion. The adventure will continue in truth when the marchers hit the road the next day, heading for Ottawa.

The 'leader of the free world', George W. Bush, will be making his first official visit to Canada this week, and concerned people from all walks of life will try to make this a trip the warlord emperor won't soon forget. From Ottawa to Halifax, his passage through Canada will be marked by many actions and protests aiming to denounce the policies and ideology of the current US administration.

Independent media of all kinds will focus on the action this week, and the CMAQ is no exception. Check this space regularly for updates on the mobilisation and the latest news from the many community reporters, photographers, and videographers who will strive to provide a much-needed independent perspective on the events.

At least two independent media collectives are organizing for the event:

• Ottawa: ottawa.indymedia.org, which will be hosting an independent media space in the federal capital;
• Maritimes : maritimes.indymedia.org, which will cover Bush's second day in Canada, a carefully-staged public event in Halifax.

For the www.wsfindia.org >World Scial Forum (WSF) the count down has begun. The fourth edition of the World Social Forum, which takes place in Mumbai India, is bracing itself to start a new round of resistance against neo liberalization. From January 16th to 21rst 2004, Mumbai, previously known as Bombay, will be greeting activists, human rights activists , progressists mp’s, young revolutionaries and other world known personalities of humanities, social mouvements, political and cultural scenes.

Not all will attend the WSF, many will rather support Mumbai Resistance 2004 which is a more radical alternative, that holds an anti-imperialist rhetoric and speaks out against the WSF monopoly on neo liberal globalization alternatives.

Almost blacked out of mainstream media, the WSF is covered by the generous contributions of our group of independent reporters, long time collaborators and close partners.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is being held from December 10 to 12, 2003, in Geneva, under the guidance of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), an international organization within the United Nations System. The WSIS is an international summit that aims to bring together governments, the private sector, and “civil society.�? Involved in the media democratization movement for over three years, the CMAQ is questioning the process of a summit that positions itself as technocratic and at the service of the market.

Because the majority of media are not reporting on this Summit, the CMAQ hopes to convey some of the real issues of communication that are largely marginalized within the Summit.
